There is a rapture on the lonely shore;
There is society, where none intrudes.
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more...

-Lord Byron

Hope for Sarah

January twenty fifth, two thousand and seven was the worst day of my life.

I sat in the sterile hospital hallway, shaking and crying. I'd just had to hear from the Doctor that my sister was not going to make it, and I then had to tell my parents. I had hospital staff coming up to me, asking if there was anything they could do. I was barely audible, muttering no thank you, and wishing I could disappear.

I eventually started to slowly get up and walk back to her room when I saw Andy and Sarah in the hallway. Andy had his arm around her, and Sarah looked so fragile. The Chemo treatments had caused most of her hair to fall out, and she was so thin.

Sarah may have looked weak, but as soon as she saw me, she put her arms around me, and her inner strength helped me more than I would have thought possible. Together, we walked back into my sister's room.

I never had the chance to tell Sarah and Andy how much seeing them in my most desperate hour of need meant to me. So when Sarah's friends and family started a 5K to help them with their medical bills, it was a no brainer that I'd be there....
 As we arrived, I first saw Andy, with  his calm demeanor and quiet strength. As we walked inside, Sarah came up to us. Her beauty and positivity were glowing. As we ran the course through snow covered apple tree orchards, I hoped that they were feeling the love and support that we all have for them as Sarah continues to fight to beat her cancer. ( I fight I have no doubt she will win)
